Face Procedures: Browlift, Facelift and Eyelid Surgery

Monday, June 10th, 2013

There’s an old cliche saying that states eyes are the windows into the soul. A lot of important, meaningful human connection starts with eye contact. The eyes are what we see with and what people look at when they look at our faces. If you have a condition that has developed around your eyes or if you have puffy dark bags that you’d like to remove, University Of Maryland’s Center for Cosmetic Dentistry can help.

We offer many face procedures for the neck and chin including (but not limited to): Browlifts, facelifts and eyelid surgery. If you’re wondering what some of these procedures pertain to, here’s a brief overview:

  • Eyelid Surgery - This surgery, also known as Blepharoplasty can help reduce bagginess from your lower eyelids and remove excess skin from your upper eyelids. This procedure is especially useful to older people who may have sagging eyelids that obstruct their vision. This is due to the process in which eyelids age; as they age it reduces the elasticity they have. The recovery time is relatively short and the end result will leave you looking youthful.
  • Facelift (Rhytidectomy) - A facelift or a Rhytidectomy reduces the visible amount of wrinkles caused by aging. The skin is lifted off of the face and then tightened to give a youthful, new look. A facelift can reduce the signs of aging by a good amount. It is the most extensive way to get rid of unsightly wrinkles and transform you back into a younger version of yourself.
  • Browlift (Coronoplasty) - Also known as Coronoplasty, a browlift is a common facial rejuvenation treatment often combined with a facelift and/or a blepharoplasty. This procedure can help remove or minimize unsightly lines or wrinkles on the forehead, as well as sagging or uneven eyebrows. It can help remove age lines from your forehead and make your face look more wrinkle-free and younger.

Face Procedures: Nose, Neck & Chin from UMD

Monday, May 13th, 2013
Facial aesthetics are often one of the most important part of a person’s self image and self esteem. While we can’t change all of the features that we’re born with, we can reshape areas of our face to conform to the standards of what we see in the mirror. Sometimes we have birth defects or health problems causes by an abnormality in our face. If you’re unhappy with the state of your face, The University of Maryland’s Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Wellness understands and can help. We do multiple face and neck procedures including: Rhinoplasty (nose), Platysmaplasty (neck) and Genioplasty (chin).

Rhinoplasty is a procedure for the nose that is utilized to change its shape or improve its function. It is a common aesthetic procedure which often has a functional component. It can be done for a variety of reasons including correcting breathing problems that are a result of disfigurment from tramua or birth defects. The main goal of the procedure is to create a natural nose and restore balance to the face. It normally takes two to three weeks to be able to return to normal functions without anyone knowing you’ve had the procedure done.

Platysmaplasty is a cosmetic procedure to improve the appearance of the neck. The neck and jaw line are one of the first places people begin to see signs of aging. A neck lift can help in removing excess skin, removing or altering neck muscles, removing excess fat or using Botox injections to address the fullness of the neck. The procedure removes excess fat and skin and tightens the muscles to give a natural, smooth look. Patients that suffer with “double chins” or “turkey wattle neck” after losing a significant amount of weight can benefit from this procedure.

And finally, Genioplasty is a procedure that alters the shape, position and structure of your chin. It is often done together with a neck lift or liposuction of the neck but in congenital or posttraumatic cases may be done alone. Your chin is an important part of your face, shaping out of the bottom and giving your face a sense of completeness. Most of UMD’s Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Wellness’s face and neck procedures can be done in conjunction with one another. Consult your local UMD physician today to figure out which procedures may be right for you.

Facial Aesthetics from University of Maryland’s Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Wellness

Monday, March 18th, 2013
A person’s identity is often linked to their facial features. Their concepts of beauty and attractiveness are also usually linked to facial features. This is true so much so that there is a ratio of facial features considered to be the “Golden Ratio.” The National Institute of Health recently found “new” golden ratios, stating that the distance of a face’s vertical distance between the eyes and the mouth would be approximately 36% of its length, and the horizontal distance between the eyes would be approximately 46% of the face’s width. There is serious science behind the theory of facial proportionality and beauty.

While there may be a scientific standard for facial beauty, at UMD’s Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Wellness, we understand that each face is different. And we also understand that there are certain features that can give a face its own unique beauty. The aging process However, if there are certain features on your face that you’re not happy with, we can help you with a number of facial aesthetic surgeries dealing with the face and the neck. Here are just a few of the face and neck procedures that we offer:

  • Eyelid (Blepharoplasty) - Eyelid surgery can help correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes. The recovery time is relatively short and provides a youthful and rested appearance. It can be done alone or in conjunction with other facial surgical procedures such as a facelift or a browlift.

  • Browlift (Coronoplasty) - A browlift, also known as a forehead lift, is a common facial rejuvenation treatment often combined with a facelift and/or a blepharoplasty. This procedure can help remove or minimize unsightly lines or wrinkles on the forehead, as well as sagging or uneven eyebrows. It can also give a different ratio for your face.

  • Facelift (Rhytidectomy) - While a facelift can’t stop the aging process, it does rejuvenate and turn the clock back. As people age, the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun, and the stresses of daily life begin to show. A face lift can address drooping and sagging as well as loss of volume. This is a procedure which can be done alone or in conjunction with other procedures.

A more in-depth look on Rhytidectomy: it is the most extensive way to remove or reduce the appearance of wrinkles and sagging of the face caused by age. The patient’s skin is literally lifted off the face so that the skin and the tissues beneath can be tightened and the skin can be repositioned smoothly over the face. The surgery usually only takes a few hours. And you may be able to go to your Maryland home that day, but sometimes patients spend one night in the hospital.
