Winter Skin Care Tips

Does the winter cold have your skin dry and cracked? Here are some winter skin care tips that will keep your skin soft, smooth, and hydrated.

Talk to a Professional

Set up an appointment with an esthetician or dermatologist to talk about your skin care regimen. They can give you professional advice relevant to your person skin type and advice on which products you should be using.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

It’s important to moisturize your skin all year round, but especially so in the winter. Oil-based moisturizers create a layer of protection on the skin that retains moisture better than water-based moisturizers. Be mindful of the type of oil the moisturizer uses if you’re looking for a facial moisturizer. Avocado oil, mineral oil, primrose oil, and almond oil are all nonclogging, make them safe for use on the face.

Use Sunscreen

The suns UV rays can still damage your skin in the winter, so use a broad-spectrum sunscreen if you’re going to be outside for an extended period of time.

Wear Gloves

The skin on your hands is more vulnerable to dryness because it’s thinner and has fewer oil glands than skin on other parts of your body. The cold dry winter air gets to your hands first, so make sure you wear gloves when you go outside. If you wear wool gloves, put on a thin cotton glove underneath so the wool doesn’t irritate your skin. If the gloves are wet from snow or ice, put on a different dry pair, because wet gloves can irritate your skin.
