Increase in Cosmetic Surgeries in 2013

More and more Americans are going for cosmetic surgeries, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The society just released its annual results on plastic surgery in the U.S., which showed an increase in cosmetic surgery procedures. Last year 15.1 million procedures were performed, which was a 3% increase from 2012.


The top five surgical procedures were breast augmentation, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, liposuction, and facelifts. 290,000 breast augmentations were performed last year. In terms of minimally invasive procedures, the top five were Botox, soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removla, and microdermabrasion. An impressive 6.3 million Botox procedures were performed in the U.S. last year. Finally, among reconstructive procedures, tumor removal, laceration repair, maxillofacial surgery, scar revision, and hand surgery rounded out the top five, with 4.4 million total tumor removals. The biggest change in number of procedures performed were soft tissue fillers, with 2.2 million, a 13% increase from 2012.
